Find wellness with the whisk of a body brush

You use a brush for your hair -- but what about a brush for your skin? Wellness expert Peggy Hall reveals the secrets behind this time-tested technique that could be the world's easiest way to smooth your skin, detoxify your body and boost your immune system, all in one!

Tired of itchy, scaly skin? Lotions and creams that don't seem to work? Peggy shows you one of her favorite ways to keep your skin smooth and supple -- without pricey body lotions! And, she says, "Body brushing is good for your insides, too!"

How to Dry Brush Your Skin

Before bathing, take a dry body brush and start at the soles of your feet. Using short, brisk strokes, work up toward your heart in short. Do the same on your arms, starting with the palms of your hands. Then do the same on your back and belly.

Continue in this manner, using the brush all over your body, avoiding your face and other sensitive areas. "I like to concentrate on my arms, legs and belly," Peggy says. "It only takes a minute or two! I do this every day, sometimes twice a day because it feels so good."

Use enough pressure so your skin gets a little pink, but not hard enough that it hurts. "It should feel nice and tingly!" Peggy says. The pressure of the brush is like resistance training for your skin. Over time, it becomes softer, smoother and firmer.

"Even the capillaries under the skin are getting a workout," explains Peggy, as the dry skin brushing increases circulation and promotes more efficient blood flow to all the organs of the body.

Peggy says you're also moving the lymphatic fluid through your body, which "takes the trash out" of your cells. As a result, your immune system is stronger, which means you're less susceptible to colds, flu and other illness.

Make sure you use the brush dry so it can remove the dead skin cells and in turn, your skin can breathe. Look for a natural bristle brush at your local drug store.

Dry skin brushing is an easy -- and inexpensive -- way to do something good for your whole body. Wash your brush every week or so and let it dry completely before the next use. Then prepare yourself for the compliments on how good your skin looks and feels!

Rheumatoid arthritis affects more than two million Americans, and it may be the most devastating form of joint disease. Without aggressive drug treatment, the disfiguring effects can happen fast. The trouble is, it's very difficult to diagnose early when it's easiest to treat. But now a new blood test is promising to change that.
