Preparing your home before the storm - AmericaNowNews.com

Hurricane prep for your home

Here are some things you can do to help your house withstand the onslaught of wind and rain that could come from a hurricane.

Use caulk to seal up around pipes electrical boxes or any other utilities that lead into your house.

Look around the yard and pick up lawn chairs and store them somewhere because a chair like this can get picked up by heavy winds and tossed like a wad of paper straight toward your house.

Inspect your soffits because 70 percent of all homes that had damage when Hurricane Charley blew through came from soffit failure.

IIBHS recommends folks reinforce soffits with sheet metal roofing screws every 12 feet.

Guterrez says the screws, silicone caulk, and caulking gun is very affordable.

"To go around your house - $50 dollars max should get you secured up and good to go," said Guterrez.

The cleaning up your yard part is free, and taking steps to keep the wind and water damage to your home to a minimum is priceless.
