The secret to running without injuries

So many of us love running. There's nothing like that feeling, but believe it or not, the experts tell us no matter how careful you are, if you run, you will get hurt. What you do next will make all the difference.

"My number one tip is don't run through pain. Too many people wait too late to get your injuries checked out. If you feel pain, there is something wrong with your body. If you have any pain you should stop immediately and have it checked out. If there is any swelling that is a big sign or bruising they need to ice it. We use the term rice which stands for rest, ice, compression, elevation. You should do that immediately after you have any swelling in that area," explains Fleet Feet Sports Savannah's certified trainer, Lydia DePue.

Sometimes the pain can lead to serious injuries that could completely derail your training program.

Believe it or not, many of those injuries can be linked to your shoes. Plain and simple, many of us are running in worn out shoes.

"I recommend running up to six months per pair of shoes. Those shoes can break down easily. If you are someone who runs more than twenty to thirty miles a week, you probably need to get a new shoe every three to four months," adds DePue.
