With Midwestern roots, she had an inclination to "do it yourself" naturally. Assisting her father in his basement workshop, she learned skills that every daughter should, from building her sibling's dollhouse to knowing the purpose of every tool in the shop.  

Today, she has more tools that most boys she knows.  Sawdust in her hair makes her very happy.  Self-taught in many areas, she learned woodworking out of a need to know.  It was her preference for wooden toys that brought her back to the workshop to build things for her daughter.  Router, table saw, whatever the tool, she challenged herself to learn each piece of equipment until she was a certifiable wood snob!

She was unsuccessful in landing a job swinging a hammer on a construction site, no matter how hard she tried.  Something about being a distraction to the other workers . . . 

However, she did find a handyman and became his assistant. He taught her problem solving--what it took to fix it.  From building fences to painting to removing fixtures, constructing drawers, stripping, caulking, you name it, they repaired it.  The experience was quite educational.  

Prior to this job, Dailyn bought her first house. She liked to refer to this time period as when she often had the homeowner's blues. We start with grand visions and reality comes and crushes them. But nothing like hands on experience to help you gain knowledge with her father just a phone call away, she made repair after repair on that little house.
