Big Top Cookie: Does it Work?

Have you ever wanted your favorite cookie to be, well, bigger?

The Big Top Cookie bake set may be the answer to your wish, if it works. The kit comes with two giant red silicone baking molds, an insert for designs, an idea book, and a scribbler for decorating.

In the fast and easy idea guide, there are a bunch of different suggestions from an oatmeal cream cookie to an ice cream cookie sandwich, as well as different styles of cakes.  For this test, we keep it basic. We're going with the old fashioned chocolate sandwich cookie.

After the molds get a soap and water bath and fully dry, we placed them on separate cookie sheets and hit them with cooking spray. Then, we mixed cocoa powder with pre-made sugar cookie dough.  This took some muscle to mix together. We separated the dough into two balls, pressing them each into the molds spreading evenly to the sides.

They cook in a 350° oven for 20 to 30 minutes.  A toothpick test assures we're fully baked after only 20 minutes. We placed the giant cookies in the fridge to cool on wire racks.  This ensures the cookies don't break when releasing from the molds.

We allowed 40 minutes of cooling before peeling back the molds to extract the cookies.  They came out easily, but with such a large cookie it's tough to support the weight without cracking.

We assembled the pieces with the cream filling in the middle.  Just like that, we had a larger-than-life chocolate cookie sandwich!

Time for the taste test.

Jamie Holubik said, "It's really good, a little bit cakey and I like it."

"It's pretty good, but just like an Oreo you need milk with it," added Samuel King.

It passed the taste test, but the cookie crumbled as we made cuts. The molds were also a bit tough to clean. Otherwise, a room full of smiles means the Big Top Cookie gets a "YES" for this week's product test.

The Big Top Cookie Bake Set costs about $5 at a local retailer.
