You've heard of yeast for baking, but what about yeast for body-building?

Wellness Expert Peggy Hall says that high-protein food: nutritional yeast also known as Brewer's Yeast is "a deactivated yeast, which means it cannot be used for baking and does not promote the overgrowth of bad bacteria. Nor does it cause bloating or gas."

Nutritional yeast is high in B Vitamins and protein, which makes it a great choice for vegetarians.

"Back in the day, bodybuilders like Jack LaLanne used to put it in their nutrition shakes -- and it's still a good idea," explains Peggy.

Nutritional yeast is sold in canisters like protein powder, and comes in the form of flakes.

"I like the nutty flavor and sprinkle it on popcorn, salad, fish, eggs, pasta, potatoes and cooked veggies," says Peggy.

Nutritional yeast contains more grams of protein per serving than typical protein powders and is about half the cost per serving, so it makes a great low-cost, high value source of protein.
