Tips to save on gas - AmericaNowNews.com

How to save more on gas

Gas prices have been in the $3 per gallon range for a while now, if not higher. Everyone wants to see relief at the pump soon, but to make sure you're getting the best gas mileage possible, here are some tips.

For answers we went to Sam Bell - one of the top technicians in the country, who also writes for "Motor Magazine".

Number one on his gas savings list - properly inflating your tires.

"The inflation is generally found on a placard by the drivers door on the door frame. Typically it would be 30psi for most cars," said Bell. "It varies with the car, not the tire."

Sam says you can actually save about $200 a year if you do it right. He also says watching your speed out on the road. Leave early and go slow.

"If you drive the speed limit you have much less air resistance as your car goes through the highway," said Bell.

Keeping up with the maintenance on your car is a must. Make sure your thermostat is working properly.

"An engine which is running even ten degrees colder than design can use as much as 15% more fuel per mile," said Bell.

And don't forget your oxygen sensor and brakes.

And if you really want to save on gas big time, "The best way to save gas is travel by bike. That's what I do," said Bell.

Sam says one of the biggest misconceptions is thinking that if you replace your air filter that you'll get better gas mileage - he says that's just not true.
