Coupon Mom: Save cash on cosmetics

Stephanie Nelson is the founder of CouponMom.com and has been sharing money-saving shopping tips for more than 10 years. Stephanie never pays full price on anything, including cosmetics and personal care products.

Most people don't think of the grocery store as the place to get great deals on cosmetics and personal care items, but you can actually save a lot of money when you know how to use sales and coupons because they have very high-value coupons for personal care items.

"For example, toothpaste. Everyone needs toothpaste. I looked at the ad and realized this was on sale this week for $1.99, and I have a fifty-cent coupon which the store will double. So I'm actually going to spend 99 cents for name-brand toothpaste," Stephanie explains.

And watch out for unadvertised deals and special clearance prices.

"Like this hairspray," says Stephanie. "It's only $3.99 and I have a coupon for $3.00 off two. You would have paid $7.98 for two cans of hairspray. But with a coupon, you save even more and get both for only $4.98."

That's 50 percent off the regular price and far less than you would pay at the department store!

Whether it's cosmetics, canned foods or cookies, remember these cost-cutting tips:

  • Look for unadvertised clearances
  • Buy items only when they're on sale
  • Use high-value coupons to double your savings
