How to replace an air filter

Did you know a dirty air filter increases an air conditioner's energy use and can end up costing you money? It's true. Our home improvement expert, Dailyn Matthews, explains how important that filter is, and how it helps cool off the costs.

"Many people change their air filter directly at their unit. Mine is in the ceiling of my hallway. A few key elements, I'd like to point out when shopping for an air filter - size does matter! You'll find, right on the side, the printed dimensions. Pay attention, you want exactly the same size. Otherwise you could have some buckling or gaps and it will make your air filter very inefficient," Dailyn says. "Another thing is, they have a little arrow indicating the airflow. Again, you want to make sure you're installing that in the proper direction."

The last thing to do is label it with the date, so that you know exactly when you changed it.

"Just like that and we're saving money, and extending the life of your system," says Dailyn.
