Why does it seem like as soon as you start to eat better and lose a few pounds, someone somewhere comes along to sabotage your efforts? America Now Wellness Expert Peggy Hall explains why people who previously couldn't care less about what you were eating are suddenly pushing food at you right and left!

Dieting isn't easy. You may feel like you're staying on track, but the pounds aren't coming off.

Well, you may be subtly sabotaging your weight-loss plans without even knowing it! One reason may be a lack of activity.

Cleveland Clinic's Registered Dietitian, Kristin Kirkpatrick says, "Just having these little things where you move more during the day actually can burn an extra 500 calories. You do that every day, you're looking at a weight loss of one pound a week."

And that weight loss can add up when you take the stairs or go for a walk every day. Also, many people aren't mindful of what they eat. Keeping a diary can help you to eat as much as 40 percent less. You should also avoid starving yourself, because it will actually slow your metabolism.

By doing this during the week, there's a good chance you'll end up eating more on the weekend.

Kirkpatrick also says to make sure you're getting at least seven hours of sleep every night.

"If you're not sleeping, you're actually going to affect some of the hormones that affect appetite, hunger, and fullness, and that makes you eat more," she explains.

A lack of sleep may also have you drinking more caffeine to stay awake, especially diet sodas. But you should pay attention to the number of artificial sweeteners you're consuming, as studies have linked them to weight gain.

So remember:

  1. Take a walk every day.
  2. Keep a food diary.
  3. Avoid starving yourself.
  4. Get seven hours of sleep each night.
  5. Avoid artificial sweeteners.

Being aware of these five simple tips can help you get the scale moving in the right direction.
