Chili on top, or chili on bottom? - AmericaNowNews.com

Chili on top, or chili on bottom?

When it comes to chili toppings, the possibilities can be endless, because chili is a meal in itself. But if you ask anyone at the Malibu Chili Cook-Off, they'll tell you that chili is even better when it's poured on top of other foods.

Peter is a competitor at the cook-off and he says, "Good chili to me is chili where you could really taste the meatiness of it. So meat on top of rice… chili on top of rice. Obviously French fries, people eat chili dogs, chili burgers. It's good on top of everything, so it's a perfect complement."

Chef Johnny of Chili Addiction, in Los Angeles, says, "My favorite thing to put chili on would be the most decadent thing you could imagine… macaroni and cheese! And I love that. It's so good. It's like a double-whammy of flavor."

But it's not all about what you put your chili on -- it's also about what you put on your chili.

Chili competitor and America Now editor Henry Harmon says, "I usually close my chili off with a little bit of cheese on top and there's already cheese inside the chili itself, but the cheese makes it evil-good!"

And while plenty of people love cheesy chili, there are some who like their chili with a candy crunch… like English Toffee.

Kristin, a candy chef, says, "It's really good. The chili is excellent; it's spicy, put on the toffee you have that sweet kick and then the Habanero that lingers at the end. It's a great compliment."

But for some people chili truly is "all that and a bag of chips."

Chili Competitor Tommy says, "Back home, you usually cut open a bag and put the chili directly in the bag and you've got your Frito pie right there. Sometimes it can be a little hot, so you've got to be careful but yeah, you can put it on top, you can put it on the bottom, just depending on how you like your Fritos.  Crispy… soggy… either way."

So as you can see, when it comes to chili there's a world of possibilities. Whether you put it in a bowl… or a bag… mix and match until you create your own winning combination!
