One North Carolina woman says she saw a "ball of lightning." It's a very unusual phenomenon that even scientists are still learning about.

"I didn't know what it was. I was shocked," said Betty Walters. Walters was sleeping in her guest room when a light outside her window woke her up.

"The room just lighted up - like it came in the room - even though the blinds were closed. It was like a spotlight just going around and around," she said. "I heard a boom, a terrible boom."

The light disappeared, but the noise was so loud it woke up her husband, who was sleeping two rooms away. The couple also noticed all of their clocks were blinking.

Balls of lightning are a rare electrical phenomenon, but they have been caught on camera a couple of times.

The ball can be any size, and can even cross through doors and windows.  Sometimes it can cause damage, but in the case of the Walters' it did not.
