A list of things you should never buy new

If you're on a budget or looking to save money, a thrift store is the place to go for a long list of things you should never buy new.

Topping that list: DVD's, CD's, video games, books, toys, craft supplies, holiday items and home decor.

And of course there are the clothes. Whether it is shirts, pants, maternity wear or kids outfits, someone else's cast off is a great way for you to save. Many people have discovered the advantage of buying a used car. A pre-owned vehicle can save you money on both the initial cost and your insurance.

Also in the used car category: motorized fun rides like boats, campers and jet skis can be cheaper than new, if they're still in good condition.

Other things to make the "Never Buy New" list: hand tools, gardening supplies, office furniture and exercise gear. Buying a brand new instrument is rarely a good idea, especially if the musician is a beginner.

And what about your family pet? Buying from a breeder or pet store can be expensive. You can save a life and cash by getting one at your local animal shelter.
